Collective

Piuarch is a group made up of people with different backgrounds and different identities, who live in the awareness of these differences and consider them as a source of wealth for comparison, dialogue and the exchanging of ideas. It is this heterogeneity that defines a harmonious whole, a kind of “orchestra,” where recognition of the group is stronger than personalization and the passion for architecture becomes the driving force. Piuarch takes its origin from this plurality of voices and, along with expressing the idea that the team is stronger than the individual player, it suggests the desire to work on a design with a strong relationship to the context, without an iconic status and always careful to guarantee environmental quality.

Milan

Milan

Piuarch is located in Milan, the city in which the studio’s major projects have been completed or are under construction. Milan has offered and continues to offer Piuarch opportunities to investigate the relationship between built-up space and public space, also suggesting participatory planning for urban renewal actions. Imbued with a strong identity and yet also having a decidedly international flavor – especially in the fields of art, design, architecture and fashion – it welcomes the most diverse experiences and makes them concrete through a craft approach that is rarely found in other places at such high levels.

Internationalization

Internationalization

“The architect’s vision must be global, universal and therefore local,” Carlos Raúl Villanueva taught. Piuarch’s method is based on always looking at what happens in different countries, in different climatic regions, so as to absorb ideas, construction models, experiments and stimuli regarding materials and forms, exploring many suggestions with the idea of projecting an architecture with universal values. The projects carried out in Italy, Russia, France, the United States and the Far East each have their own identity, but maintain a constant tension between their place of origin and an international approach.

Setting

Setting

Piuarch’s architecture is based on understanding context; not just the physical, but also the cultural, historical, social, artistic and urban context. In the approach to the design concept, the most important elements are analyzed, which will then be used to give shape to the building. The relationship with these elements can be expressed in a morphological continuity, in direct reference to the landscape, in the matching of materials or in the continuation of the urban fabric.

Art

Art

The relationship with the setting is interwoven with and enriched by references to the history of architecture and to artistic movements such as the geometric abstractionism of the latter half of the 20th century and kineticism, and that of Venezuelan origin in particular. The transposition of these styles is explored in relation to the avant-garde and subsequently translated into compositional material for the designs. The quoting of these schools or trends has thus helped to inspire in different ways the expressive forms of buildings and designs that have developed over time.

Social Architecture

Social Architecture

The commissions from private clients are mixed with Piuarch’s experiences in the theme of urban renewal generation and collective architecture. The idea is to work on new concepts for the functional use and sharing of common spaces, considering them as the seeds of a civil rebirth and of a stronger urban identity that can improve the city and the life of its inhabitants. The strong contrast between an architecture with important social implications and the practicing of the profession in the luxury sector has always been a strong stimulus for design research and the study of the potentialities of each location.

Clients

Clients

Piuarch’s work is in keeping with the concreteness of “making” architecture: a commitment to the good practice of the profession and to the building of high quality parts of the urban fabric, often for attentive private clients, eager to produce works with an international flavor. The most significant assignments are developed and nurtured by a constructive dialogue with the client, often of long duration: an example of this are the projects developed for Dolce&Gabbana and many other high fashion brands. Thus the experiences of international competitions sponsored by private organizations interested in the way Piuarch faces a project come together with work on details and with the ability to interpret the setting with a recognizable but understated image.

Craftsmanship

Craftsmanship

The design process pursues a feeling of physicality that evokes the concreteness of doing: the digital technologies notwithstanding, Piuarch’s architecture still has a strong element of craftsmanship, with models, sketches and patterns that constitute the scientific characteristics of an in-depth narration of the works. The constructive development also arises from a continuous exchange with the client and the suppliers, where the research of details, of the visual and tactile properties of the materials, and of products that can interpret the philosophy of the project leads to the development of solutions uniquely prototyped and customized for each project.

Updating

Updating

Piuarch expresses the ability to identify and coordinate top professional skills in the management of each design process. The defining of work teams, which include experts in the various areas to be integrated, is enriched by the studio members’ constant updating on the most advanced construction technologies, materials, products for systems control and energy saving. Local partners in different area contexts ensure the correct management of the different organization of work abroad and in support of local regulations.

Environmental Quality

Each Piuarch project moves in the direction of architecture’s most exciting challenge: to improve the conditions of living together. And this can happen by providing users with structures having characteristics that encourage social interactions and stimulate well-being: natural lighting, acoustic comfort control, the introducing of relaxation, meeting or children’s play areas, the providing of both inside and outside protected areas, the rational organization of passageways, and the correct dimensioning of the rooms, systems and services are all elements that, as a whole, promote environmental quality. This value is then increased with energy saving and attention to the consumption of resources.
